Google Combines Joga with Orkut

Google announces Joga.com on their blog. We previously covered Joga first here, and then here. Well, I’ve actually tried the service now, and it feels very much like their other social networking site: orkut. In fact, the two are virtually the same. If you have an orkut account, it automatically fills in your orkut profile information for your joga profile, and it shows your orkut groups:

These are my orkut groups, but the appear within Joga. The implications of this are interesting to consider. If you have a joga account, do you also get an orkut account? Why do they still maintain the ‘invitation system’? Is it just a marketing tactic?
